Every year, from October 4 to 10, World Space Week is celebrated, an initiative promoted by the United Nations to foster global interest in science, technology, and space applications that contribute to human development.

At Universidad del Valle de Guatemala (UVG), this commemoration was celebrated in a special way this year with the participation of the Aerospace Laboratory, which presented the advances of the QUETZAL-2 project, Guatemala’s new satellite currently under active development.

During the event, Héctor Gómez, Project Manager of the project, presented the development methodology and the subsystems that make up the satellite, highlighting the importance of strengthening national capabilities in science, technology, and innovation through space projects of this kind.

In addition to Héctor, three students from the team also shared their experiences, lessons learned, and motivations within the project, demonstrating how their participation in QUETZAL-2 has contributed to their training as future engineers and researchers.

Renée Dávila, a Mechanical Engineering student and member of the QUETZAL-2 Systems Engineering team, commented:

“I had heard a lot about QUETZAL-1 before, and that really motivated me to participate in the QUETZAL-2 project.”

The event reflected the collaborative and educational spirit of the Laboratory, reaffirming its commitment to developing young talent and advancing aerospace sciences in Guatemala.
